RE: [Philmont]: Spouses @ PTC

My wife is definitely not the outdoor type. She lets me enjoy all that fun.
However, she has been to PTC three times and is willing to go again.

The spouses program is great.
They have many choices.

Every day there are four main choices -
The tour of the day
The hike (actually walk) of the day
The craft of the day
C.O.P.E.

The tour goes to different museums in the area each day.
One day there is an all day trip to Taos or Raton or others (maybe).
This is coordinated with the day the youth programs go out all day.

The hike does various short trails -
nature trail, T-Rex print, Lover's Leap and more

Every day at the craft center there is a special craft for the adults.

Each week there is a 1/2 week C.O.P.E. course for the adults -
you can either go Mon-Tue or Thur-Fri

In addition, a spouse can always go fishing, walking with a friend (never
alone), travel where they wish or just read.

Every time my wife has gone, she has met great people and
enjoyed sharing her side of the Scouting story and gaining support learning
we are not alone.
And we are not that different.

Remind your wife, too, that she will be able to have all three meals with
you and the two of you will have the evenings together
Every night there is something special going on -
cobbler bakes, talks, movies, western night - bar-be-que and dancing
You have never seen "Follow Me Boys" until you have seen it with 100 other
Scouters.
Lines like "I'm only going to do this for a year" take on a whole new
meaning

My wife, who is not an outdoors person and insists on flush bathrooms, did
the trails one year and C.O.P.E. the other two. You could have knocked me
over with a feather when she said C.O.PE. the first time.

Take her along. She will have a great time. Then treat her to fancy hotel
and dinner when you leave,

Dave
