The unofficial Philmont Advisor's Guide available from Cooper Wright
CoopWright@aol.com has a complete section on that subject with the best
times with respect to the sun's location. In 1991, Wayne Stogner, our
committee Chairman was with our crew and I did not realize that he was a
professional photographer on the side. He then explained why taking
pictures at window rock in the morning would not be very good. He also
discussed the best times to take shots at the Tooth, Visto Grande, Comanche
Peak, Baldy, Wilson Mesa, Phillips. He also explained why he uses the fill
in flash for all shots with people in it. Hope this helps,

Wally

Here's a question I haven't seen on the trek comparisons
that will interest the photographers in the crowd:
where in the ranch does one get the best views?
And is there a best time of day (sunrise, mid-day, sunset) to be there?

I'll offer one: the view of Baldy from Wilson Mesa - it is so gorgeous that
it is on a Philmont postcard.
I think that you can be there only at mid-day.
