[Philmont]: Diamond Hitch and Burro Packing

When I went to PSR as a youth, we took burros from Ponil to Indian
Writings. We got three burros for our crew. I still have clear
memories of our hike with the burros that day.

I was already using the diamond hitch every day to attach my gear to a
US Army surplus pack frame made of bent plywood and canvas. I stretched
my Yucca pack across the top of the pack frame and the "D" rings on my
Yucca pack worked just right with the attachment points on the Army pack
frame. Gear that didn't go in my Yucca pack was diamond hitched to the
pack frame below the Yucca pack.

It rained a lot that year. When I got back to Base Camp, my Yucca pack
had shrunk enough that I had to cut one of the "D" ring attachments to
get my pack off of the frame. I still have the pack and the "D" ring is
still missing.
