[Philmont]: Philmont 'on vacation'

My two cents worth.... In 2002 the other advisor and I both pitched in
to help things move smoothly...not lead, but help. It was a great time
to build crew/team spirit as we were talking together with the scouts.
It added a lot to the experience and the scouts seemed to appreciate
the time and conversation (and a little advice). Working together was
a
natural way to get to know the scouts and get a read on how things were
going without having to make a point of talking to them. They never
asked for help but were happy for another set of hands. Our scouts
were
young and physically small so those bear bags were tough to
hoist...after they figured out the how....I could add some bulk to the line. It
worked well for us and the other advisor would have had a tough time
just 'being on vacation' since we were all in it together.
