It is miserable in central Texas today too. No snow but wind and rain
right now as a "norther" just blew in.

There is no recipe as this came from Linda (my wife) cooking them from
scratch using the materials Philmont provided. The pancake tradition
began during our troop's first trip to Philmont in 1989.

I believe 1995 was the last year Philmont had pancakes on the breakfast
menu. The meal included pancake mix, a powder that you mixed with water,
heated and then used as syrup on the pancakes, and foil packages of bacon
that the crew could either reheat or ate without heating. One year, our
crew found five packages of bacon in a swap box so each crew member wound
up having five slices of bacon with his/her pancakes rather than the
normal two slices.

Since 1995, we've always taken pancake mix and syrup on our six Philmont
Autumn adventure trips and Linda always cooks pancakes one morning. We've
also taken pancake mix and syrup on a couple of Kanik adventures. At Wood
Badge at Zastrow in 1998, "someone" told Linda's patrol that she was an
excellent pancake cook and she wound up cooking them two or three times.
The QM even found out and presented her with a box of pancake mix at
assembly one morning. All of that for a person who really doesn't like to
eat pancakes but certainly excels at cooking them.
