That pretty much sums it up. Some crews go so far as to remove a lot of the
packaging or consolodating the packaging on the meals. Some things that
works great for, others it does not work as well. Our crews used Philmont
meals (available starting in the fall from the commisary) for our practice
hikes. We found that we did not drink much of the gatorade or breakfast
drinks so we developed a plan to strip part of it out. Also, we had an odd
number in our crew and the meals all come as 2 person meals. We found that
the meals as was pretty much satisfied us so we worked out how to strip an
extra person out. Many items you can't divide in half (without making a
potential for a huge mess), so we figured out what we rounded down on and
what we rounded up on.

Other crews find that the Philmont food is way more than they need, while
others find they will eat much more and they scavange the swap boxes.

Hope that helps.
