RE Meal stripping:
"It's a Technique."
In my passionate desire phor data in the 18 months prior to my Phirst Trek last summer I read about meal-stripping on a number of sites and tried, unsuccessfully, to phind out exactly what it was. I had an idea, but no specifics. I wish I had been a member of this list then. Duh.
IMHAWIO, and I did discuss this with some oph the guys in our crew over the last phew days, we never considered stripping worth the time and/or ephort just to toss the Gatorade pouches, which is the only thing we didn't consistently consume 100% oph, and one of our guys kept taking the unused Gatorade phor himselph. Hey, he didn't mind the weight and carried his share oph crew gear so it was his call. We pheel that the packaging, while bulky, preserves the contents phrom crushing and breakage, and that was worth it.
Our guys ate everything and even picked up extra veggies in the swap boxes to supplement what Philmont gave us. The only thing that was "under-eaten" was the granola, simply because there was too much to eat dry in the short amount oph time our crew took to eat breakfast.
Allow me to say, on a personal note, that, even at this very moment, anyone who doesn't want their peanut butter, jelly or squeeze cheese (especially jalapeņo), please notiphy me at the e-mail address below and I'll swap you something for it, or accept it as a gipht.
