RE What to wear in camp:

Wal-Mart sells a Merrell knock-off moccasin-type thing that a lot of our
guys found to be perfect for in-camp wear. Light, more supportive and
protective than water shoes or running shoes, all 100% waterproof
leather, slip-on. A bit bulky, but good enough and only $9.99.

The issue with sandals is the toe being exposed, but there are sandals
that have toe enclosures and some, like mine, that have a toe-guard or
shield across the front.

Some guys in our contingent brought Tevas and waited until the ranger
had moved on to bring them out, just to avoid the lecture and hassle.
It's a technique.
