Don't know if these were mentioned,
I used KEEN sandels in camp. Could also be used as water shoes. They have
a FULLY covered toe and good support.
Got mine at REI on SALE. You can probably see what they look like at REI's
website. Are available for men and women.

>>Peter,
>>Philmont is a large Ranch with a LOT of people going through. Therefore
>>they get enough medical incidents to keep statistics. Based on those
>>numbers, they generate their protocols. In 2004 the "shoe protocol" was
>>this:
>>You need to hike in hiking shoes. Low tops were discouraged (rolled
>>ankle injuries), but not dia-allowed. For around camp you could wear
>>anything but bare feet. However, for PROGRAM (climbing, or any of the
>>other activities) and COOKING you MUST have closed toed shoes. I saw a
>>lot of sandals out there, and many of the Rangers carry a pair for
>>non-hiking use.
>>I am the kind of guy that can live in his boots all day (and all night
>>if necessary) without any problem. However, there were a few times when
>>all I wanted to do was pull off my socks and shoes and bake my feet in
>>the sun, which I did more than once. Next trip I'll be bringing a light
>>pair of Tevas, and I am NOT a sandal guy by any stretch.
>>By the way, for you sandal fans, watch the weight on different brands.
>>The EMS sandals that look just like Tevas weigh a heck of a lot more
>>than real Tevas.
>>Happy Hiking,
>>Tom
>>
>>> What is Phimont's
>>>policy on bringing sandals?
