<<Sure, advisors can bring one person tents, but what do you tell the youth members of your crew when they all want to be in separate tents? You are going to get some different opinions on this, but we try not to do anything different for our adults than for the rest of the crew. So we use two man tents for everyone.>>

The name of the game is weight reduction, both on individual gear and crew gear. A one person tent weighs much more than a two person tent divided by 2. A three person and even a four person tent weigh much less per person. The problem is the footprint size. Most Philmont campsites have tent locations with the two person tent in mind. It's all a matter of comprimise. It's also all about teamwork. How can there be any teamwork interaction using one person tents.

Another thought is that as an advisor, one must set an example for the youth to follow. Another way of thinking is "when in Rome, do as Romans do". Use the two person tent.
