We have had this thread before. Should all carry an equal amount, or should
it be distributed based on size? FYI...our adults have always carried their
fair share. This pertains only to youths. That said...
My son was under 100 pounds on our first Philmont. We knew that was too
small, but he was a fighter. There was very little discussion as to whether he
would go, or not. He went. Had to put on his pack, on the ground, roll
over, and then stand up!!!!!! We took another scout, now fighting in Iraq, who
was equally small. Same thing with the pack. I think my son sums it up with
this reply (today) to my email to him.
"Both now and then, I am not will not be treated different because of my
size. Just because I am smaller does not mean I cannot handle my own.
Additionally, the boys already gave us a hard time because of our size imagine if they
also had to carry more. Little kids aren't weak, just little. Clear
enough?"
Clear enough for me. My 2 cents.
