Two points on AA:

If you want to arrive and depart to the Backcountry on the same day, be sure
to arrive early and let the AA coordinator know. That way the guide can be
sure to have everything set up, and get you through as fast as possible
(barring any health problems.)

Regarding sleeping: Philmont gets pretty cold in the autumn. Sleeping
under a fly or on a porch will usually not be warm enough.
