> The MicroPur tablets are measured to treat one liter of water and
although more tablets can be used for larger containers it becomes
something of a guesstimate/overkill situation. If you have a three
quart container, for instance, you'll need three tablets and that is a
bit of an overdose.
A liter is approximately a quart, so what's the big deal?
I completely doubt that we ever got it "just right" with Polar-Pur,
either, or if we did it was accidental. I have seen the miniscus in a
capful of Polar-Pur vary significantly as has the actual fill level in a
gallon container and the amount of sediment floating in the water.
Does anyone really expect the temperature indicator on the side of the
bottle to be accurate? And is the temperature of the water we just
collected from the stream the same as the bottle of Polar-Pur we carried
in our pack all day, anywho? And doesn't one expect that the
concentration of soluble iodine in Polar-Pur to vary with the
temperature of the solution in the bottle? And does anyone ever add
just a little extra to be on the safe side?
I think you have to put this into practical perspective. I've seen
Polar-Pur treated water that I mistook for orange Kool-Aid. Might have
been a bit less tastey, but it didn't harm anyone and the margin of
safety from a disinfecting standpoint was not compromised.
