Shouldn't be a problem.
Here in the northeast, we sort of have to follow that pattern as many of the
trails are covered in snow and there aren't enough snowshoes to go around.
for our 2004 trek we had the following schedule:
7 shakedown hikes. With each hike forming different crew configurations.
Final two hikes were with the crews we actually used. Team building is more
important than the physical training
Nov 2003 - simple overnight camping, with an introduction to the crews,
philmont style food and with small hike (4 hours)
Jan 2004 - Snowshoe hike where it got to -20f that night. Although the
distance traveled was only about 6 miles round trip, all the gear made it
seem longer
March, April, May, June - 5 hikes in the white mountains of NH.
March-August - Hikes at the local scout camp which has a decent size hill
(steep climb). We would hike for 2 hours each night anywhere between 1 and
3 times a week.
Good luck

...
I am going with 2 crews to Philmont in June, and little work has done to
prepare them for it.
Having been twice, I am aware of the preparation required.
My idea is to compress what would have been 10 months of preparation into 6.
Anyone out there faced this?
