Winding Stair is a good prep hike in Oklahoma (SE part of the state off US 259). Also, your advisors (and maybe your youth) should be running stadium stands with packs. Be careful with overtraining, you want to avoid injury. Make sure your youth and advisors are in the best condition possible, and you all are familiar with the equipment, setting/breaking camp, and bear safety. Don't forget your certs. 6 months will be enough if your advisors are in good condition and you take a trek that is in the 1-22 range or so. Stay away from super strenuous. If you have an advisor or scout that is out of shape, ruthless kindness may be something to consider right now and then hope you can replace the slot in your crew.
