RE: [Philmont]: Airport to Philmont

Airlines (UAL, Delta, Continental, etc.) sell their seats in a progressive
cost structure. As the seats sell, the price goes up. 2 months ahead of the
flight, if there are only 2 seats left, the price may still be through the
roof. The exception are the "low cost" airlines (Southwest, ATA, etc.) that
advertise limits on their flights. One price all the time. I was on a
flight once RT for $150.00 seating next to a guy who paid over $775 the same
trip.

If you want to book a lot of seats, you need to call their group office of
the airline. Might not be web price, but the overall price will be cheaper.
(If you want to have fun, price the seats on the web for your flight and see
what happens after you book your group on the same flight.)

If you have 3 contingents, but the time you get done buying seats, the last
dozen or so could be through the roof.

To answer your question, one would have to know the size of your group,
because that makes a huge differece.

From this list I found Durham bus company which seems to offer me a good
deal for ground transport. (They operate out of Colorado Springs) And having
someone on the group say "it worked" is VERY helpful!

I would advise doing all this pretty quickly. In the last week, the airfare
from Chicago went from $190 to $250. (My dates, etc.) I also learned that
the price on the web is hard to get for lots of people. You end up buying 3
or 4 seats at the low price and then more seats on the same plane cost more.
If you deal with the group phone number, they give you a price higher than
the web but it averages out.

For us, going into Denver saved us over $150 a person over going into
Albeqourque (Denver is also easier to spell on the flyers :-)). I was
advised that flying into a big airport is more hassle, but I have to fly out
of O'Hare; not too many larger than that!
