I composed a large post last night but had some transmission problems, which I do not encounter on short posts, only the long ones. To hit one specific topic raised by Gary (the ascent of Mt. Phillips), I strongly recommend approaching that peak by going up Comanche Creek from the vicinity of Comanche camp on the Rayado, through Red Hills Camp. Red Hills camp makes an excellent layover camp for this ascent. (good water). It is MUCH easier than the approach from either the Clear Creek or the Cyphers side.
I'm taking the youth to Washington DC tonight to see the new (Smithsonian) Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Center at Dulles Airport tomorrow and the new National Museum of the American Indian Sunday, so I can't write longer. I have some thoughts on the feasibility of Gary's concept of setting up more than just one base camp for day hikes during the course of a single Autumn Adventure, as well as floating the idea of limited backpacking with extended layover days, which eliminates the problem of private vehicles in the more remote parts of the backcountry, which may not be favored by the staff. You have all the way until the day you arrive to fix your plans.
All for now.
