Casa Bonita is alive and well. I had remembered it from a visit in 1976
and we added it to the plan. We had a crew dinner there in 2004 and were
welcomed. All ate well and the boys had a great time, It was a little
hard to keep track of them being spread all around in the different
rooms, but we managed. We also met a Council exec from Detroit ( I think
) who was on vacation with his wife. He complimented us on a sharp
looking, well behaved crew. As a bonus, my brother and his wife also
joined us (they live in the area). I hadn't shared a meal with them in
over 20 years.
It was a great time. We also did the railroad museum in Golden and then
on up to Lookout Mountain to get the boys some altitude. They got their
first taste of how fast and powerfull a Rocky Mountain thunderstorm can
be. Of course if you are in Denver before the trek you HAVE to go to REI
for all the last minute stuff you didn't know you needed. We actually
replaced some older heavier gear for some newer lighter stuff. We had a
blast there too.
Happy Hiking,
Tom
