Don't ever, ever, ever allow the crew to separate on the trail. You will wind up with only one half the number of people to respond to any emergency, and a second problem (on top of the original emergency) of locating the other group. What if one group has the first aid kit and the other does not? What if one has the trowel and the other has the AP paper? Never, never, never.
