We had a pretty grueling travel schedule (very early start times) and by
the time we got to our first camp everyone was tired. After lunch and
setting up camp, everyone except me fell asleep including the ranger
(all outside of the tents). Although I was not alone, it was quiet. I
got some great pictures of the youth sleeping.
I am up early so the mornings are usually a great time to watch the
sunrise in a quiet setting and reflect on life.
I value my time alone, but I never felt at Philmont like I needed to get
away from the crew. There were enough times and places when the crew
would settle down, and you could a few feet away and look out for miles
on the beauty of Philmont.
