RE: [Philmont]: Alone time

I read and still have a copy of Cooper's 1986 Journal. The one phrase
that I remember the most was Cooper's description of what it is like to
climb Baldy. He said that it was "A Personal War!!"

In 1989 when I climbed Baldy, that was the only phrase that went through
my mind as I took two steps forward and slid back one step as we
approached the top!!

Alone time is a great time to sit and write in your journal. Most
scouts and adults will come away from Philmont with wonderful memories
and photos. Very few will take the time to record their thoughts in a
written journal. On my first trek as an adult in 1986, I kept a journal
that I typed up and gave to each member of the crew after we had gotten
back home. I know that from time to time, I still pull it out and
remember the trials and joys of being an advisor for a great crew.
