Scouts may be interested in bagging a 14'er. Mt. Evans has a paved road to
the top, with about a 200 yd trail from the parking area to the actual top,
totally doable. If you take I70 West going out of Denver it will lead to
Idaho Springs, I believe its the 2nd Idaho Springs exit that takes you to Mt
Evans. The road to the top is a toll road.

There's also St. Mary's glacier near Idaho Springs. This is a chunk of snow
and ice that never melts completely:

The best music venue ever, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, is a cool place to visit.
If you time it right, you could catch a concert. Even if you don't, its
still a nice place to visit.

Right across the street from Red Rocks is a bunch of fossils and dinosaur
stuff as well
All of this is very close to the Denver Metro area
