Re: [Philmont]: Bus from Denver to Philmont - Van or School Bus

For our 2005 treks, we flew from San Francisco to Colorado Springs the
day before, and hired "Pikes Peak Tours and Charters" to bus us to/from
Philmont. I think this is the same company listed in the Philmont Treks
2005 Itinerary Guide as "Gray Line of Colorado Springs". The flat rate
for the bus was $1025 each way. Averaged over two crews (24 heads), the
round trip cost was $86 per person.

We arrived at Colorado Springs at 2:30 PM, but the bus was two hours
late due to a medical issue with the original driver. This was a
Saturday, so I was sweating bullets (due to the heat and the stress)
trying to get someone on the phone, and/or to line up alternate
transportation. Luckily I did reach someone at Pikes Peak Tours and they
were busy getting another driver lined up. It all worked out, but we did
not get into Philmont until 8:30 PM (the alternate driver had never been
to Philmont and took a wrong turn in Cimarron...).

All in all I liked Pike's Peak Tours, they just had a mishap with us
(assuming their explanation was on the up and up).

Also, they were asking another $75 if we stopped for a dinner, so I had
everyone bring a sack dinner from home, or money to by something at the
airport that they could bring on the bus. We ate on the bus and that
worked out fine. The scouts brought a DVD so they could watch it on the
bus's video system.
