I'm not so sure about efficiency. According to the web
site you list below: "...about half the heat output per
ounce compared to other liquid fuels (white gas, butane,
etc)".
Now if this was your only stove, you could make up the
weight penalty for the alcohol on the savings for the
stove (assuming the regular one you carry is heavy). But
if you have to carry something else anyway...
PS. We made these stoves at a troop meeting and used them
on a weekend backpack trip. It turned out to be a fun
project and great way for the boys to make something
useful and then use it. Cutting, hammering, burning; it
don't get much better than that!
