> The 2006 Guidebook to adventure says that Philmont furnishes 150-foot
length of 1/4 inch nylon rope that weighs about 2 1/2 pounds.

For our 2005 trek, our crew of 9 was issued two ropes. I would guesstimate
they were about 80 feet long. We were also issued four bags. For a four
day pickup, that was barely adequate. I carried the rope, and I would
swear it weighed a lot more than 2.5 pounds, especially toward the end of
the day.

Maybe a crew of 12 would be issued three ropes, I don't know. I doubt it,
but then that rope with a four day pickup for 10 on it was pretty heavy to
pull up to the cable.

Still think Philmont should switch to cannisters.
