For 2005 Philmont issued 2 100' 1/4" ropes (heavy).
For 2005, we brought and used 2 100' 1/8" 500-pound test parachute cord ropes for our bear bags with absolutely no problems (other than our ranger didn't like it). Together they weighted less than one of Philmont's ropes. We did use a 5' length of Philmont's bear rope to attach our parachute cords to the trees (ranger's request). Too long to go into here - e-mail me and I'll describe how we did it.
We will use the same set-up for our '08 trip.
We also use our own bear bags to lower total crew gear weight.

The 2006 Guidebook to adventure says that Philmont furnishes 150-foot length of 1/4 inch nylon rope that weighs about 2 1/2 pounds.
I remember getting 3 separate bear bag ropes in 2004. They were 80 or 100 feet long with a loop knot in the middle.
What is the collective memory on
a. Number of bear bag ropes issued
b. Length of each rope
c. Etc.
