We have always used one of the two ropes provided for holding the main food
bags. We bring a lighter weight, brightly colored rope and a carabiner for
the oops bag and leave the 2nd rope in the car. Always worked without a
hitch and makes it easier to identify ropes when at a crowded bear cable.
