Go to your local feed store or mill and ask for feed sacks. They should have several sizes to choice from. They will be new and what you need if you want to take your own.

This past summer we were issued 2 ropes - one for the main bag and one for the oops bag, which worked fine in most cases.  The bags did get heavy to pull up when we were carrying up to 4 and 5 days of food.  The main issue for us was the quality of the bear bags supplied by Philmont.  They shredded and tore easily, quickly diminishing our packable space for hanging on the cable.  For our next trip in 2008, we'll be taking large stuff sacks as bear bags - much more sturdy and still light weight (unless someone has a better solution!).

The 2006 Guidebook to adventure says that Philmont furnishes 150-foot length of 1/4 inch nylon rope that weighs about 2 1/2 pounds.

I remember getting 3 separate bear bag ropes in 2004. They were 80 or 100 feet long with a loop knot in the middle.

What is the collective memory on
a. Number of bear bag ropes issued
b. Length of each rope
c. Etc.
