I still have my red wool jacket from 1963, gift when I earned by Eagle, but I think its an item that should be dropped - the current one is overpriced and not sturdy (read cheap and thin). The "official" jwool jacket and the one from Northern Tier are too expensive for most Scouters and Scouts and really have been replaced by a more user-friendly material - fleece! Scouts in our troop, and in lots of units here in St. Louis, are buying red fleece jackets to sew on back patches and the Philmont bull. Fleece is very user friendly, just throw in the washing machine, and man are they a lot cheaper!! If anyone from National Supply reads these postings tell us if you have looked at fleece. Fleece jackets and vests are sold by Nat. Sup. for OA and special recognition and sold at Tooth of Time Traders so I know that vendors are available. Think its time they adopted the red fleece jacket as "the" jacket. Yes, the nylon wind breaker is nice, but its not a warm jacket.
