Russ and list,
I believe I may have been the poster about red wool scout jackets being
available through Northern Tier.
The information I posted was that Bemidji Woolen Mills in Bemidji, MN makes
the jackets for NT. By appearance, they're practically identical to the
Woolrich brand, except for the slash pockets in the front. (They're
internal pockets, btw. Not pockets sewn onto the outside of the jacket.)
The material is heavier, the jacket comes with the official BSA patch on the
pocket and best of all for us tall guys, it comes in TALL SIZES. I bought
one for my 6'5" son and he loves it. I'm envious of the jacket because it's
nicer than my Woolrich.
Maybe the ultimate "best of all" is the fact it costs less than the red wool
jackets in the BSA catalog. Better quality at a lesser price... what
everyone is looking for.
Here's the link: http://www.bemidjiwoolenmills.com/details.php?id=voyscout
For comparison, here's the link to the jacket at ScoutStuff.org (I notice
they're having a sale that brings the price below Bemidji):
http://www.scoutstuff.org/BSASupply/ItemDetail.aspx?ctlg=05NDC&ctgy=PRODUCTS&c2=APPAREL&C3=JACKETS&C4=&LV=3&item=541BSJ
No affiliation with Bemidji Woolen Mills or NT. Just a happy customer.

Subject: [philmont] Red Scout Jackets--revisiting a topic here
sometime back someone posted an email about the Red Jackets (wool) sold
at the scout shops and at Northern Tier or somewhere on the East coast.
The posts related to "better" red scout jackets.
The ones that are currently in the scout shops are made in china and are
about as cheap as I've ever seen. The ones referenced in the earlier
posts cost over $100 but were much better quality.
If anyone has any information on this, please let me know.
Thanks
Russ
