Our Venture Crew got a trek for 2007 from the wait list. I can't find the exact number right now, but it was somewhere around 96. We were notified the first week of October.

Subject: [philmont] Position on waiting list
Hello my dear listers!
Okay, 2 years ago we got in on the first round.
This year we were wait listed.
Got my letter today and we're 152 out of 995. Sounds pretty good. And I recall last year watching folks on the wait list getting assigned treks with numbers much higher (I think). But I cannot recall how high the numbers go. So questions:
1. Historically, what numbers generally get selected? In round numbers......
2. WHEN do you find out if you're going to go? Is it when the first payment is due or what? I mean should you start a sign up and start training on the "possibility" of going?
Note: I took a crew from our troop this year and IT WAS THE BEST!!! I signed our troop up for 2008 even though my son is now aged out (made Eagle first, thank God!) I figure even if our Troop is picked, my personal chances for returning are miniscule. But if there was a shortage of adults, this 52 year old geezer (by 2008) would go at the drop of a hat!!!
