[philmont] Position on waiting list

While nobody can truly predict the future and I do not speak for Philmont, I
can share my limited experience as a high adventure coordinator for our
troop.

For 2007, we were wait listed at #196. In mid-Nov 2006, I received an email
inquiry from Philmont if we still interested with the same dates and
contingent size. With my "yes" we were offered a July date for the two
crews we applied for. Our offer came after the round of half-payments due
and groups did not pay. Since we got a late offer, they allowed a little
adjustment for the payment schedule.

This has caused us to facilitate a quick sign-up process and parents feel
the pinch of a compressed fee collection cycle. For our mid-November offer,
I had until mid-December to pay the down payment then I have Feb 1 for half
payment and March 1 for half payment. As a troop unit we have an active
high adventure program and nearly all have experience so I am less concerned
about preparation and team-building (that I might if this were a council
contingent with many boys that don't already know each other).

Regards.

Subject: [philmont] Position on waiting list

Hello my dear listers!

Okay, 2 years ago we got in on the first round.

This year we were wait listed.

Got my letter today and we're 152 out of 995. Sounds pretty good. And I
recall last year watching folks on the wait list getting assigned treks with
numbers much higher (I think). But I cannot recall how high the numbers go.
So questions:

1. Historically, what numbers generally get selected? In round
numbers......

2. WHEN do you find out if you're going to go? Is it when the first
payment is due or what? I mean should you start a sign up and start
training on the "possibility" of going?

Note: I took a crew from our troop this year and IT WAS THE BEST!!! I
signed our troop up for 2008 even though my son is now aged out (made Eagle
first, thank God!) I figure even if our Troop is picked, my personal
chances for returning are miniscule. But if there was a shortage of adults,
this 52 year old geezer (by 2008) would go at the drop of a hat!!!
