[philmont] Position on waiting list

For anyone on the waitlist with a lower number, I would start advertising
now for 2008. We were #62 for 2007 and I started handing out price info,
total approx. cost when I was putting out info for 2006 summer camp a year
ago.

Had a Parent meeting in early May 2006, found out in AUG that were going to
get a crew, initial deposit Due Oct 1, first payment Nov 1, 2nd payment
March 1 2007.

With our position on the list I knew we would have to move FAST in the FALL
when contacted, and I was right. We had 2 crews, only got enough adults and
youth to fill one crew. Happy with the way it all worked out, Betty P. was
very helpful.

A few parents and scouts didn't believe me, that we would get a crew. Have
a coupld of boys going to Washington DC for Spring break, a week at about
the same cost as our Philmont trek and the transportation to get to NM.
That put them financially out of the ability to go. If I had had to take
deposits a year ago, we might have gotten a few more older boys to go too.
By fall they already had moved on, and had other plans for this summer.

My point, tell parents to talk to you before they decide for their
son/daughter to do another big trip with school, band, etc. The way luck
runs in my troop, these couple of boys won't have another chance to go to
Philmont. This summer is our first troop crew since 1999.

Just get out the info to parents and scouts early, and wait for the Call.
