Why did you cut it slightly *larger* than the tent? Does it shrink
in the wash? Your footprint should be 1 to 2 inches smaller than the
tent. If it sticks out, water can run off the tent, onto the
footprint and create puddles underneath your tent.
We've also used 3 mil painter's plastic. It doesn't hold up as well
as Tyvec, I'm sure, but it was easy to find and is quite light.
We were able to find the correct footprints for our tents at a
discount, so we use those - about $12 a piece instead of $30/$40.
Some of them have been holding up for 8 years now.
