It is always best to get the answer from the horses mouth, so to speak.
However, I will note that for 2005, this was listed in the guidebook as an
optional
item, not required. I have not seen the 2006 or 2007 guidebook. Was this
actually
reworded to make it mandatory?
I would be disappointed where this the case. We brought two filters in
2005. We
used them once, and then switched to the micropur. We never looked back.
We only had to treat water at four places on our trek (itinerary 2).
