<<They are saying you have effected me in a positive way and I want to
recognize that, if I had the time to become a mentor, if I had the time to
watch you grow into a fine man or woman, if we had the time to become friends
I would cherish that. But we don't and all I can offer in return is this
little gift to say I am sorry we don't have the time.>>
Isn't that sort of what Wait Phillips said when he gave Philmont to the Boy
Scouts of America? Something about the only things we keep are what we give
away.
What would Ponil, Cito, Rayado or Car Max be today had Mr. Phillips not
believed in giving a gift of considerable value?
I dare say it would not be a place where you and I and many more could go.
Philmont is all about giving.
When a person has a significant impact on me, I give them something in
return. Something really nice that they hopefully can use and will
appreciate and more than likely would not get for themselves at the present
time. I like people doing that to me. It is special. I have remembered
those sourtesies fom more years than I like to admit. Even more, I like
doing that to others.
