There are no Den Mother positions in Scouting units that have 14year olds and
for good reason.
Most Scouters are familiar with Boy Scout age kids. Philmot attendees are
NOT Boy Scout age kids. There is a big difference between an 11 year old and
a 14 year old. Treat the 14 year old like one would treat the 11 year old
and they imediately loose all respect for you and rightfully so.
I suggest the adults going with crews to Philmont get out all the Venturing
material they can get their hands on and read and head it. When you do that,
the problem simply disappears.
At Philmont last month I observed both kinds of leaders. As I was once told
"It don't takes all kinds, we just gets all kinds".
