Re: [Philmont]: Withholding Philmont Arrowhead Patches

I've read these responses and have one thing to add. Although the point is well taken that these young men have just completed an outstanding adventure, why would the need to "with-hold the patch to insure behavior on the return trip"? Having recently just returned from my third council contingent trek, I can empathize with both sides. How is it that these young men can endure the trek, but forget their manners and the fact that they represent Scouting and their Council on the return home? This year we had a scout who refused to wear his uniform on the return trip. Almost every other scout wanted to know why he was given special privileges. Most seemed satisfied that perhaps with his behavior, it was best that he NOT be associated with the contingent as a whole. Several patrons at the terminal in St. Louis had complimented the scouts on their exemplary behavior and the fact that it took a great deal of intestinal fortitude to wear uniforms in this day and age, and they admired it! My question is: Does anyone have a method of handling this type of "problem"? Withholding the Arrowhead Patch is not a solution. But ...............?

Wondering,
