Philfolks:
I'm usually just a confirmed lurker on the list -- I've done six treks to
Philmont, but rarely do I have anything interesting or enlightening to add
to the wisdom displayed here.
However, I've got a question for ya'll.
I got back at 12:30 a.m. this morning from a visit to my #1 son, who's
working at Philmont this summer. He's having a great time, and it provided
me (whose phone service makes it almost impossible to get through on the
call-in day, but that's another thread) a chance to see him and visit God's
Country.
He went out as a Ranger, but an injury re-located him to working in
activities at Basecamp. Initially, he was disappointed, but as I told him
then, "Hey, you're at Philmont, you get to go anywhere on Days Off, you're
getting to play and sing every night, and you're getting paid for it. What's
to complain about?" He now agrees.
Anyway, he asked me to ask the list for feedback on his group's performance.
They're in charge of the closing campfire. He's the tall guitar player with
sorta blonde/brown hair.
Now, I know we all fill out the evaluations; but from personal experience,
sometimes in the rush of getting off the trail and eating real food, etc., I
haven't always done a real good job on them. But the staff really does read
them, and so do the supervisors. (BTW, for whoever a couple of weeks ago was
unhappy with the staff at one of the backcountry camps -- I think it was
Clear Creek -- that group has been getting poor evals, and steps were
rumored to be underway to rectify the situation).
So, if you've been out on a trek this year, how about letting me know what
you thought about the closing campfire (good, bad or indifferent), and I'll
pass it on.
Thanks,
Cliff Coan
