We had heard from many sources that the maps here were inaccurate. I
checked 3 completely different maps and none were very close. We were not
shown the one in logistics, perhaps because coming in over the tooth was an
"option" for us based on our original itenerary.

The mileage seems about right. The route is not very close and if you
looked, you could see the old trail in several places. I am not sure why
they went to the extreme of excessive mileage and very little grade fall
coming down from tooth ridge. There sure must have been a happy medium
between where they were and where they trail now meanders without much drop
in elevation. I am not complaining though. It just extended the Philmont
experience a little longer.
