[Philmont]: Philmont patches should be received at Philmont

My son completed trek 4 Thursday. 714D

His call home was so upbeat. He used many words to describe the experience. Hard, new muscles, fun, long, food ugh, really hard, camps activities, big muscles etc. etc.

But over all he said "What an experience!"

What I read between the lines was 'I did it and I am really proud of myself'

I asked him if he got the Philmont patch. His answer, "I am wearing it'

He was fresh off the trail, excited and proud of his accomplishment. Wearing the patch in camp gave meaning to it. It set the scouts wearing it aside from those who were waiting to start. He had scouts asking him how it was and details of his particular trek. He was experienced.

In my opinion, fresh off the trek is when they should receive it, not later on when the feeling of accomplishment has lessoned and those around him when he receives it cannot share the full meaning of it.

As you can see I am as excited as my son about his accomplishment. Now if he will just come home and finish writing up his eagle project we can have a party.
