RE: [Philmont]: Tyvek dining fly

As a test I built a prototype tyvek tarp corner by laminating the corner
with adhesive backed dacron and using a two part brass grommet. If this
test fails I will stitch a dacron-tyvek laminate corner with a double row of
straight stitches. So far the corner seems very reliable- supporting a
static load of 30 pounds for 4 days.

Tyvek is used in cleanroom suits and can be sewn and laminated quite
readily.

I plan a second test this weekend using lighter sail tape radiating along
approximate load lines for reinforcement before completing a full-up tarp
for 'wind tunnel testing' on top of my truck next week.

Stand by for results and plans posted to our troop web site.

Best-

I tried making one, but gave up after my attempts at attaching grommets
failed. I know you can use sheetbend ties on the four corners, but couldn't
make a middle attachment point. Any experience or knowledge that could help
with this one?

Tyvek tape, $9 per roll at Home Depot.

Let me know how it works:-) I'm making mine next weekend. Hardest part
seems to be guy lines that stay.

It looks like I forgot to save the whole thread when this came around
the last time. If I want to make a 16' x 16' Tyvek dining fly, and I
have two 8' x 16' pieces of Tyvek, what's the best way to attach them?
Rubber cement or double back tape?
