Just returned from Trek 5 last week. The stream was fairly active at least
during our passage, - saw a number of iddy-bitty trout so water is constant.
Sounds like the rains have been quite a bit better the past few weeks too.
Didn't have too much trouble doing all those 54 crossings. Quite a number of
log walk-overs and
rock crossings. Pretty place to hike.
Some distance up the trail is a few acres of microburst damage. Numerous
pine trees were snapped
in two. Aspens in the area seemed to fair much better.
Two staffers we met midway on the uphill trail stopped us to be on the watch
for one of
Philmont's rare flowers, a Wood Lily. Saw one just a few minutes after they
left us. It's
flower was bright orange. Total height was about 15 inches.
