My oldest son has just finished his trek (707F1) and will be
returning home via Amtrak tomorrow. We mailed the guys from
our troop a small package and several cards last Saturday, Priority
Mail, and were assured that they would arrive by Thursday. When
I spoke with him for the first time yesterday afternoon, he had
not received these things, though he said the staff might not
have gotten the mail to their group yet. This posting makes
me think they will get their package in a few weeks, at which
point I guess they'll have a belated chocolate party. ;)

On another topic, I have enjoyed "lurking" on this list for the
past two weeks while my son was gone. I've learned a lot about
Philmont that I really wish we had known before he left (first
time for him @ 14 years old), but he sounded like he had a fabulous
time anyway. He is slightly underweight for his height (according
to the chart), but he had no trouble with his pack or boots.
He sounded happier than I had heard him in years - older too!
What a wonderful experience for him and the whole group. Thanks
for helping me feel a part of the place via your messages!
