Re: [Philmont]: Check-In question

Crews normally check in together at Philmont. While your whole
contingent might not have arrived, I would strongly recommend
whole crews to start the check in process. Earlier you complete
this task the quicker you get on the trail the next day. If you don't
finish then you will find your crew finishing check-in on the morning
of day #2 and catching your bus for the backcountry the afternoon
of day #2. Afternoon hiking at basecamp elevation is always hotter
and drier.
Our goal when we go is to complete check-in in the morning of day
#1 and have the afternoon for sight seeing- Villa Philmonte, Kit
Carson Museum, Tooth of Time Traders, etc. Then we have a 8 am
bus to go to the backcountry and a nice morning hike before the
heat.

This is our preference, but no matter what time you check in your
crew is still going to have a great time.
