Our method of packing our packs for the airlines is to place the
packs in 3 mil black plastic yard/leave bags ( I believe they are
around the 35 gal size). We then wrap them with duct tape to keep
them secured. A lot cheaper that duffel bags. Just make sure you
take extra bags and duct tape for the trip home. If you have a extra
large pack you might need two bags. I wrap my trekking poles in a
trash bag and then duct tape it to the trash bag that is on my pack

Another suggestion, if you are traveling with a Council group take
some cheap bumper stickers with you. ( Some business will give
them to you free) Place them on the trash bags to identify your
crew packs from everybody else in the Council. 60-100 packs all
wrapped in black trash bags can take time to get to the owners on
the luggage belt.

Using the trash bags you can unwrap your packs in a few minutes
and then carry you packs on your back at the airport when you
arrive at Colorado Springs or which airport you use.

Another suggestion: Anything that is breakable in your pack should
be packed in the middle of the pack. Water bottles, flashlights,
compasses that are packed in the side pockets of a pack can be
broken when the baggage handlers throw your pack on the plane.

Have a great trek!
