Not to argue, but besides having to have material to repack for the ride
home, if I were inspecting baggage, it would only be more than suspicious to
have plastic-wrapped and duct-taped large packages and inevitably difficult
to open and re-close to inspect..
 
Zippers work well, and your duffle bag can be used to store your pack in the
garage when you aren't using it..

Our method of packing our packs for the airlines is to place the
packs in 3 mil black plastic yard/leave bags ( I believe they are
around the 35 gal size). We then wrap them with duct tape to keep
them secured. A lot cheaper that duffel bags.
