Hello!! We just got back from Philmont July 3. Our trek was 620-J2, and we
got trek 11 (our original trek was #2). We were issued 6 bear bags. One
was for "oops" - last minute items. We designated one bear bag for personal
items. The rest were for food. One hint - repeated - is to bring along a
full size carabiner to use for the oops bag. It makes it easier to hoist
the bag. The bear bag rope rides on the bear cables. The oops rope rides
against the bear bag rope - a lot of friction. Using the carabiner reduces
the friction and makes the process easier.
