Pat Finley asks: >>>> So what happens if Amtrak discontinues long distance passenger rail after you have purchased your tickets? Did this come up during your discussions with them? <<<<<<<< We discussed this at length. The final decision was thet the likelyhood of the Southwest Chief being eliminated was very small. We dediced to go adhead and purchase the tickets on August 24, the first day we can. A recient post noted the the Southwest Chief is in jepordy. Our committee chairman is out of town until Monday. I have left him and email and we will open the discusion again. We may now delay the purchase a month or two but we will have to give up the best prices for the margin of safety. Once our committee is in position to discuss the issue again I will call Amtrak and discuss the refund proceedures. I have been looking all along into alternative transprotation and nothing seems to come close to the train prices...which may be why they are loosing so much money.
