I have the nylon cord explained right here:

http://anvilgear.com/jason/backpacking/checklist.php?id=105

When it is used for bear line, I think it is best if only used for your
Britany Spears bag (Ooops Bag). This cord may not be strong enough for
the heavy bear bags you will have.

This bag should be fairly light and empty. Items such as a I found trash
or chapstick in my poocket and it needs to go up before we go to bed. The
idea is that one person can get the bag up and down with out assistance.
Teen age kids may be embarrased to ask the crew to help get down bags as
everyone is settling in for bed because he forgot to do a pocket check.
Instead they shove it down in the shoe hoping a bear won't get it. It has
happened very very frequently. Heck, I did it when I was a camper. Now a
camper can get his/her tent mate to accompany to the bear bag for putting
up a forgotten smellable.
